The NCSD Pioneer Scholarship is for recognition of those individuals who have been identified as being "Pioneers" in the industry and who have been involved in the NCSD as students or made contributions to NCS during their studies.
One scholarship will be awarded to a graduate or upper-level undergraduate (Junior/Senior) nuclear science/engineering major, with the desired emphasis on areas supporting nuclear criticality safety. These areas include, but are not limited to, computer code development for neutron transport calculations, critical or subcritical experiments, and neutron cross-section evaluation.

Flynn Darby
2024 Recipient
"I am honored to receive the NCSD Pioneer Scholarship, which recognizes our innovative work advancing criticality safety research. As a Ph.D. candidate in Nuclear Engineering at the University of Michigan, my research focuses on neutron noise analysis to better understand fission chain kinetics. Collaborating with scientists from Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Swiss Federal Technological Institute (EPFL) has been instrumental in applying novel methods to analyze data from unique experiments, such as the measurements during the MUSIC campaign and at the CROCUS zero-power reactor.
This award is a meaningful acknowledgment of our efforts and inspires me to continue pushing the boundaries of criticality safety research. I am deeply grateful for the support and recognition from the NCSD community."
